Hollywood Celebrities with braces

Orthodontists say early screening is necessary for braces to work; but when you miss the window, is it too late for straight smiles? Just ask Tom Cruise; he was reported to have worn braces in 2002 during the premiere of the sci-fi movie Minority Report. For clear braces, there’s Justin Bieber, one of many Invisalign celebrity users. These are just some of the examples Fox News Magazine mentioned, which is evidence that it’s never too late for orthodontics.

Just as kids have braces designed for their teeth, adults have their counterparts. While teeth may have grown to the point that they become difficult to move, braces, in general, can still do their job on adult teeth. A professional Denver orthodontist like Dr. Charles Reed of Cody Dental will tell you that you’re never too late for a set of braces. It’s estimated that nearly half of orthodontic patients in search of the most beautiful smile possible are 18 and above.

What makes adult braces different from braces for kids? Dr. John Buzzatto, president of the American Association of Orthodontists, believes, structurally, they’re no different from the type of braces children have. However, aesthetics become more of a concern in adult orthodontic cases, which narrows the options down to everything but metal braces. Thus, adult braces are usually of less conspicuous types.

Tom Cruise wore ceramic braces, which are usually colored the same as natural teeth, hidden from plain view while performing their magic. Celebrities often choose ceramic braces because of their low cost, ranging from $4,700 to $7,000. Of course, ceramic braces cannot really elude close scrutiny, which is how some managed to spot their braces. Regardless, these celebrities and their doctors are proud of their orthodontic treatment.

Other options include clear and lingual braces. Clear braces are nearly invisible in plain sight due to the transparent, flexible polymer pieces designed to fit unique tooth profiles. Lingual braces, on the other hand, take “hidden from plain view” literally by being custom-fit at the back of the teeth, unlike the position of conventional braces. Lingual braces are ideal for celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge who need to show off their smiles more often.

Despite the difference in options, braces in general, take variable time to correct overbites, underbites, and the like. For those planning on getting braces during adulthood, Buzzatto advises preparation for a hefty investment and a long-time wearing them. He also says that it’s up to an orthodontist to choose the right kind of braces for the adult patient. If you live in the Mile High City, be sure to consult an orthodontist in Denver, Colorado before making your decision.
